Marshall 14 - Hayfield 6

In a  gutsy performance performance by both teams, Statesmen win the field position battle in the 4th quarter and edge our Hawks!

Young Hawks show flashes of brilliance. Second half penalties on both sides of the ball haunts Hayfield. Inspired late drive to tie score, comes up short.

(L. to R.) Three Seniors played splendidly on defense for the Hawks on the evening and deserved to be recognized for their effort; Co-Captain's John Hickson  (#4) and Mike Broome (#7) as well as Corey Mack (#75).

(L. to R.) Sophomore RB Rashad Westbrook  (#5) breaks lose for a 58 yard TD run in the second quarter. Westbrook is congratulated by his teammates. Sophomore QB Anton McCallum hands off to Westbrook. (Note:  As the game progressed, the muggy conditions and dehydration took its toll on a number of Hawks playing both ways.) A Marshall ball-carrier is stopped short of a first down. It can be lonely out in space.

(L. to R.) A Marshall defender breaks through and blocks Hawks punt in the first quarter. Hawks LB (partly hidden) stops a Marshall ball carrier. McCallum gets loose and runs for a first down. Hawks defenders battle in the trenches. Head Coach Billy Pugh and his very talented sophomore QB Anton McCallum. (Comment:  This young man is not only fun to watch, he has great potential as a playmaker.) Statesmen favorite running play was the counter. A violent collision. Junior Nathan Joyce follows Senior John Hickson during a kick-off returns. Hawks defense continues to improve.
