McCallum three TD's passes to Rigans highlight a terrific effort by our Hawks in a heartbreaking loss, 28-24!

(L. to R.) Senior QB Anton McCallum (#7)  rolls out to his right on a passing down; Anton completed 11 of 22 passes for a total of 150 yards and three TD's (all to Senior Rayshawn Rigans.) Rigans (#8) celebrates one his three TD's on the evening. His fantastic catch late in the fourth quarter gave the Hawks a three point lead.  Rayshawn carried the ball 22 times for 160 yards( and had four receptions for an additional 100 yards. On the Hawks first snap from scrimmage (a reverse) Rayshawn was credited with 64 yard run after he was supposedly forced out of bounds.  Check the video out and you decide...was he in or out of bounds? Tough, tough call.  Hayfield had to settle for a field goal.  Senior WR Seaun Stribbling had number of nice receptions and a couple or real nice blocks.  (Videos source Digitalsports.com).  (Comment: This was heartbreaking loss, ending Hayfield's season.  However, after you take the sting away, there is so much to be proud of this year's team! Coming into a new district this Hawks team, through dedication and  hard work,  persevered  winning the National District title.  Although always welcomed, there we no new players moving in.  These kids were nurtured and progressed during the past seasons at Hayfield.  Some had not played a down until their sophomore or junior years.  The credit for this goes to the coaching staff who endured trying seasons but never gave up on these children. A number of players were selected by to the All-District team which was great.  However, some who were outstanding throughout the season were shunned in the voting..... even though the Hawks ran the table in the district. This is not to take anything away from the players selected from other teams; but, in all honesty a few more Hawks were worthy of recognition. Next season Hayfield will miss the presence of seniors Marshall Evans, Timmy Klintsevich, Rayshawn Rigans, Umar Farook, Anton McCallum, Carson Giammaria and Alex Merino (to mention a few). And you can be sure that the National District opponents will not take our Hawks lightly. The team will rely on a solid nucleus of underclassmen who contributed to the success this season. So, this season is over but routine workouts in the weigh room or participating in other competitive sports will be needed; the same for the Summer passing league. Congratulations to the team, coaches, trainers, parents and supporters.  It was an excellent and thrilling season. Hope to see you at the banquet.  Click here for attendance form. Juan Navas.)

With the assistance of the Mt. Vernon Hospital rehabilitation staff, Coach Billy Pugh was able to attend the game. This required a lot of logistics and coordination and we thank the Mt. Vernon rehab team from the bottom of our hearts!
