Lethargic Hawks pay the price, get plucked by the Chargers, 49-14!

Team looks to regain their previous spirit and enthusiasm against Mt. Vernon

Regretfully, our Hawks started extremely slow out of the gate and continued to play sluggishly throughout this non-district contest. The Chargers, on the other hand, playing in front of ahuge hojme crowd were at the top of their game,  dominating the entire contest. Did the fact that close 20 Hawks players missed at least one day of practice due to illness  before this game have an effect on their play? Did they lose their focus because It was a non-district game?   Perhaps,  but the bottom line is that they took a beating by a team that was fired-up and ready to play. Although there were some good individual efforts by members of the they team needs  play at the level their are capable of performing. There's no rest for the weary as the Hawks get back to district play next week as they host the Mt. Vernon Majors. Come on out and support our Hawks as they strive to make the playoffs. (Game notes:  Kudos to Sean Townsend (#82), Rayshawn Rigans and McCallum for some spectacular receptions. Senior QB/DB and wide receiver Anton McCallum (who never leaves the field for the Hawks) hand another very solid performance. This versatile young man flat out can play at any skilled position on the field and is the Hawks best pass defender. Although he is the starting QB he is a huge threat at the split end position. HIs tremendous speed was evident during his 65 yard TD run.)

(L. to R.) Captains meet at the center of the field.  Although Rayshawn Rigans (#8) had a couple of nice returns, the Chargers coverage kept him from breaking away for a big one. The beleaguered Hayfield defense could not get off the field as the Hawks offense was not consistent. Marshall Evans (#85) rushes the passer. Soph. LB Anthony Wilson (#14) and Junior DL David Cox (#64). With Elham Uddin (#55) leading the way, QB Anton McCallum hands off to Soph. RB Steven Lynch. Punter Ariel Reyes (#17) got to see plenty of action. Freshman DB Wesley Scott (#4) brings down a Charger. McCallum is a blur on his dazzling 65 yard TD run. Justin Marshall (#44) is in on this tackle. Marshall Evan (85) is the only senior in this photo of the Hawks defense. Hayfield starts eight underclassmen on defense (including one freshman); that means a learning curve, particularly in the seconday. Junior QB Jason Stewart (#10); on this play Stewart connected with McCallum for the Hawks second and final score.

Oct 1st - An impressive opening scoring drive by the Freshman team did not hold up as they fall against the Chantilly Chargers, 29-12.  Junior Varsity is decisively defeated.

Frosh

(L. to R.) Five Chargers combined to bring this young Hawk down; Hawks ball-carrier gets around the end for a first down; a very nice cut-back against the grain by this young Hawk. Tough going in the trenches.  Ouch!  Excellent kick-off coverage by the Hawks #84 as he gets the better of this young Charger. The Hawks burly QB is pressured by the Chargers. Number 15 just can't quite catch up to a thrown ball. Hawks #36 looks for daylight during a kickoff.........

.....and finds it as he gallops for an 85 TD return!

(Note: Number 84 is a real good looking wide receiver for the Hawks and showed a lot potential on special teams and defense. )
