Hayfield has nine starters returning from the team that won the Region in 2001, with four returning state qualifiers and six regional place finishers. In addition, the Hawks will be replenished by wrestlers from the Junior Varsity program that has not lost a dual meet in four years. Things are looking bright for Hayfield in 2002! On the other hand, one state champion and two third place finishers in the state tournament have graduated. Where will the leadership come from? Who has worked hard in the off-season? Or are the Hawks satisfied with what they have accomplished over the last 3 years? Many have forecasted that Robinson will shake off the Hawk's yoke this year and recapture their past glory. Others seem to think the perennial Northern Region power Herndon has resurrected its storied wrestling program to wrest the Regional Title from the upstart Hawks. In any case, Coach Hill has made the 2002 Hayfield schedule as challenging as any in the state. The Hawks will compete in the tough Western Branch Rotational to start the season, then travel up to Delaware for the toughest tourney in the country, "The Beast of the East". The following week they come back to Northern Virginia to compete in another nationally ranked tournament, "The Eagle Classic" at Colonial Forge High School, in Stafford, Virginia. If that were not a tough enough start to their season, the Hawks then enter their 3rd straight nationally ranked tournament by competing in the Herndon Holiday Classic. The dual meet schedule in January and February doesn't get any easier. Hayfield will battle:
Hayfield will also have matches against the #2 and #3 ranked teams in the Northern Region: Centreville and Herndon! The Hawks look to have depth, talent, and a strong schedule. What
are the key ingredients for a successful season? Desire and dedication.
With those two motivating factors, the 2002 Season could be the best
